How can I join merchant navy after 10th

Students who are willing to join merchant navy after 10th you can go with the following listed courses

  • Deck Rating course.
  • Engine Rating course.
  • Saloon Rating course.
  • Diploma in marine engineering
  • GP Rating course

What do you mean by GP rating

In merchant ship there are two department one is engine rating department and other is deck rating department. In both the department there is requirement to work crew under the supervision of officer this is called GP rating(General purpose rating).

GP Rating means general purpose rating. GP Rating course can be done after 10th.

GP Rating course are candidates who have been trained in both Deck and Engine Room tasks.After successful training, examinations is conducted by Board of Examination of Seafarers (BES) under D.G Shipping (Govt of India).

GP Rating after 10th Course Duration

GP Rating course is a 6 months residential Pre-sea training that you can pursue after completing matriculation.

You are trained to work on either on deck or Engine department according to the requirement of the company. You perform tasks related to Seamanship, Cargo handling, Maintenance work on the deck, Operation and maintenance of Machinery.

What is the Eligibility criteria

Age: student should be in between 17 to 25 during course commencement.

Qualification:  Atleast 10th Pass with minimum 40% from a recognized board. Atleast 40% marks in English subject in either 10th or 12th examination.

Eye Sight: Student can use corrective lenses for eyesight is permitted at entry should have 6/12 in each eye or 6/9 in better eye and 6/18 in other eye for distant unaided vision. Color blindness is not permitted.

Medical Fitness: Student Should be physically as well as mentally fit for sea and should meet the medical standards laid by the Director General of shipping.

Minimum Height: 157 cm

Minimum Weight: 48 kg

Note: Candidate should apply and get there passport immediately, because it is a required while applying for C.D.C.

Career Prospect

Selection of a candidates will be done through oral, written and practical tests. At the end final examination is the main evaluation test and will be held at the end of the 6 months long program.

After successful completion of course you will get a chance to work on ship and you will also get stipend.
