How to start career in Merchant Navy

1. Certificate required from a recognized maritime institute

If you want to join merchant navy officers level, then you  require UG or PG certificate from any recognised maritime institute. These steps are  applicable in most of the country where its requirement of Merchant Navy office.

2. STCW certificate

STCW means Standard of Training Certification and Watch keeping. In this certification course you will be trained on the safety measures, know more about onboard watch keeping and all small information which has been used in any time in marine. At the end of the course , you will be issued a certificate which is used in the time of joining.

3. Trainee

After complete above two steps, the next step is to apply for ship practical, this rank is generally called cadet .It has been require up to 12 month but in some courses it has been 6 month.

4. Medical fitness examination

This certificate will be given to you by an approved doctor or medical center will also be asked from you.

In this examination there are some another small examination which has been listed below:-

  1. Eyes examination
  2. Body marks and operations
  3. Infections or transferable diseases
  4. Ear disease
  5. Weight, Height and Mental check

5.Yellow fever certificate

This certificate shows that you have taken a yellow fever injection which protects your from this sickness at sea.

6. CDC and seaman passport

In some country both the certificate is necessary and some few country was demand only CDC certificate.

7.COC and Watch keeping certificate

After all above steps you will be eligible for as an officer.
